Birkbeck CTP & Open Library of Humanities working together

The Project

Janeway is a journal platform designed for publishing scholarly research material. It is developed and maintained by the Centre for Technology and Publishing at Birkbeck, University of London.

Martin Paul Eve serves as the Project Lead for Janeway.

Tech

Janeway is written in Python (3.4+) and utilises the Django framework (1.11 LTS). The source code is available on Github under the AGPL-3.0 License.

Installing Janeway is relatively easy, we maintain installation instructions for Debian and macOS based systems. A docker container is in development.

Janeway has a plugin framework for those who wish to use it, otherwise you can develop your own apps using Django's application framework which is well documented on Django's site. CTP maintain a suite of useful plugins:

Andy Byers serves as Lead Developer for Janeway

Janeway in the Wild

The Open Library of Humanities is currently using Janeway to host its website and has one journal on the platform, the International Journal for Welsh Writing in English which is funded by OLH and published by University of Wales Press.

In addition, Birkbeck currently host their Postgraduate journal Dandelion on Janeway
